The Pavillion, one of the most legendary restaurants in Zurich, was designed by star architect Pierre-Yves Rochon. The restaurant is a glass gazebo - with an imposing five-meter-high rotunda, ornamental stucco and roaring-twenties-era Lalique chandeliers - that brings diners in direct contact with the park in which it is located – a green paradise in summer, a wonderland in winter.
Besides white and platinum tones, the dominant colors are primarily the lilac and mint-green shades of the art deco upholstered furniture, specially manufactured for the Baur au Lac by leading Parisian artisans. The floral patterns on the carpets and curtains, also created by Pierre-Yves Rochon, are reflected in the white-grey and platinum tableware, custom crafted by Rosenthal. Particularly eye-catching are the two paintings by the Swiss artist John Armleder that flank the open fireplace in the lounge of the Pavillon reception area.
